Kathleen Ganley Will Pass A Law To Protect Alberta Parks

Ganley said her legislation would be part of an updated Alberta Parks Act and would require any future government to seek public approval before delisting a park.

Alberta NDP Leadership candidate Kathleen Ganley will pass legislation protecting Alberta parks from any attempt to sell or privatize them.

“Without warning, the UCP Government attempted to ‘delist’ over 160 provincial parks — meaning they would be sold or contracted out,” said Ganley. “Alberta’s natural spaces and landscapes belong to us all. They are a major draw for tourism and our broader economy.”

Ganley said her legislation would be part of an updated Alberta Parks Act and would require any future government to seek public approval before delisting a park. She also committed to further investment in parks, additional campgrounds and protecting other public lands. Previously, Ganley committed to passing Rachel Notley’s Eastern Slopes Protection Act, which would ban coal-mining in the mountains.

“Our incredible mountains and parks are a huge part of what makes up this incredible place we call home,” Ganley said. “I want them to be there for my daughter, and for future generations to enjoy like I did.”
